Ingredients:
* 1 lb beef flank
* 1/2 lb beef stew meat
* 2 medium onions, chopped
* 2-4 cloves garlic, minced
* 2 stalks celery, diced
* 4 carrots, sliced
* 4 pototoes, diced large
* 1 can white beans, drained and rinsed
* 1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
* 1/4 cup barley
* 1 cup water
* 1 can chicken broth
1/4 tsp Mrs. Dash seasoning
Method
Brown meat on all sides and remove from pan. Saute onions, garlic and celery in meat drippings. Add additional oil if needed. Use some of the water to release pan drippings and add to crock pot. Put meat, onion mixture, potatoes, carrots and beans in to crock pot in that order. Add seasoning, all liquids, then add the barley. Cover and cook on medium for 8-10 hours.
Notes: This is a traditional Jewish dish. It can be served thin, by adding more water or thick by cooking until most of the liquid has been absorbed. This dish can also be made with dark meat chicken or with no meat at all but add more garbanzo beans and more barley.
