[clear coating]

Man
this stuff is no joke.
So... I had a -decent-
rig for my clear coating.
Turns out there's a bit of a chemical reaction going on here
and with the thickness of my clearcoat (because it really globs on) the few surfaces that were left sitting to dry bonded with stuff in the cardboard, plastic, and clearcoat
and burned.

It's pretty cool... I knew this was going to be a potential problem for two reasons

I already knew about this chemical reaction from ... I forget where but I knew about it

and my latex gloves had already been partially melted and I said "uh oh"

I've worked out a few solutions

1. change brands
2. set up a better rig AND fan to blow off excess goo

*narrows eyes*
I like Michael Buble` or however it's spelled.
Just sayin..

I need a suspension rig for some of my less stable parts
I've seen some of the pro level rigs, they're really just foam board and sticks.

and that's great for something that you can JAM a stick into and hold it upright and stable
... what about the shit that needs every surface covered AND has no viable socket to fuck?

... hehe.

Well, that's where the suspension rig comes in.
I'm thinking alligator clips and bannisters for the moment.
Might be a hardware adventure in the works.

But... that's all dependent on my paycheck which... I HOPE isn't missing, but it should've been here by now.
I'll ask around tomorrow. Worst case scenario I ask for another one to be sent.
Right on time sending me a W2 though :/

Also some of my ball joints got damaged in the clearcoat process.

Thank god I really don't give a rats ass about this model, but... I'd be pretty pissed taking off pooled bits of burnt plastic and cardboard filiment on something I liked.

I think I need a viable barrier for surfaces I want to protect

oh and
don't skimp on deconstruction if there's a moving part, that stuff seals like a bitch (I left some hip plates on the torso... it doesn't really move any more).

So

**************
1.) Complete disassembly of all moving parts
2.) no surfaces touching the drying rig
3.) minimize pooled and globbing surfaces with a fan
4.) candy.
**************

I've come up with a few effect ideas and read about some proven ones (like a permanent water droplet effect). I'm excited to try putting rock salt on one layer of coat, sandblasting etc.
oh and distressing
but I need power tools.

up next is also some more experimenting with lining
I watched a guy take lighter fluid acrylic paint and a sponge and just drip it into every crack followed closely by a sponge
it might be a better and more controllable way to work in different colors in the crevices.
From what I've seen you basically have two options with lining
the dropper or
buy specific colored fine tip pens.

I gots me some iridescent silver... I'm excited to see how well it bonds and the effect it creates.
Now
I pay my bills.
