So it hit me today that some people can be so hypocritical it is ironic.Most of my co-workers talk about Americans being so ignorant and closed minded.When I first started they were kind of shocked.They have told me I am not what they expected.I guess they thought I would show up spitting tobbacco(shit costs too much up here) and slurring my words.I dont talk like I have a mouthful of marbles and I am not ignorant to anything.As a fact I strive to learn as much about anything as one can.By no means do I think I am a scholar,just not a toothless inbreed either.Ofcourse this is neither here nor there.They spend an awful lot of time calling people ignorant and stupid,yet these are traits they dont hide so well.At our shop we have many customers from many different nationalities/ethnicities.Two of which stand out in my mind when I think about this.One is an Asian man whose ocupation I am not aware,but you can tell he is well educated.The other is a British man,that is employed at the auto-port.Tha Asian man I do not know by name,but I have spoke to him breifly on seperate occasions.HE HAS AN ACCENT!We are all aware...Does this make him less of a man?Less of an intellectual?I dont think so,but MOST of my co-workers feel the need to mock him(some right in front of him).You can tell by speaking to him he was not born here.He probably didnt even move here until he was grown.He is hard to understand at times,but does this mean he should be treated differently?I hear my co-workers talk about him and want to shout out "How many languages do you know?"By taking English as his second language and LEARNING it,he has surpassed many people I have met that were raised speaking it.He is a nice person and does not deserve the disrespect he gets because of this.Now the second guy is Mike.He is British.Can you guess the things they say about him?They dont know a thing about him besides that he has an accent.Well if he talks like that he must be a queer...Right.Last I checked this country still holds an allegence to the Queen,so if his heritage makes him gay,SO DOES YOURS(ok maybe not,but it felt good to say).Mike is a guy about my age or around and if you take a second to talk to him he is cool.Jokes are jokes,but sometimes enough is enough.Maybe I was raised around so many different nationalities that I am not jaded by these things,but idk.Sounds kinda ignorant to me....
