Well, I managed to have my very first car accident last night. Yes, I'm just that highspeed. "Tore up my car to junk and back," or so I've been told.
To be honest, I'm not sure how I managed to get out of this thing without doing more than tearing up the front end of my car and killing a deer. I'm a bit sore from the impact and whatnot, but other than that, I'm fine. The angle at which she landed on my hood should have put her, legs first, through my windshield, but fortunately for me, she bounced off right before she hit the windshield. I felt so awful, especially because she didn't die immediately. I remember being more concerned for the deer than I was for myself or my car.
It could have been worse, though. Had I not made the decision to pull over into the opposite lane, the car behind me would have slammed into me, possibly injuring or killing the lady, her little girl and her unborn baby. I'm not sure that I would have maintained my composure had that occurred.
It was weird. I was so calm until after everything was over. I remember looking up into my rearview mirror as I watched her body hurtle toward my car and thinking, "if you slam on your brakes, you're going to cause a serious accident!" Though it didn't last but a few seconds or so, it seems to have played out in slow motion. I don't know. I'm not articulating very well.
Suffice it to say that, with the exception of the deer, we were all truly blessed.
