People quickly passing by
Their faces all a blur
Remembering very few
Amongst the aisles that stir
I go about my day
Not taking note of much
Until I see this man
A gentlemen, of such
His face shines like a beacon
Across this crowded sea
This man of grey and silver
Begins approaching me
His smile...sort of innocent
His eyes, a child like fear
I think about my grandpa
As he starts to near
His words are softly spoken
Though repetitive they are
As he tries to ask my help
In searching for his car
His confusion comes and goes
Just like a summer's breeze
As I walk with him and reminisce
To put his fears at ease
A mind full of knowledge
And stories of the past
A life lived to the fullest
Not much time for it to last
He searches for a friend
As he journeys on his way
A simple touch of kindness
To get him through his day
I open up the car door
and I help him climb inside
He starts up the engine
To begin his final ride
Before he drives away
He calls for me by name
"I hope someday when you're in need
someone will do the same"
Although his minds not right
and the patience can wear thin
I know that I will sleep tonight
Cause I gave my best for him
So when the choice is yours
To help or walk away
Remember...
In the future
That could be you someday
