Most of you know I am a writer, and lately I've realized that although pathetic, my life is far from boring and so I've been using bits and pieces of my real life in my books. Well I could write an entire novel about tonight. It's a story so pathetic that I am laughing about it.
It started this afternoon. I got a call from my friend Jennifer's brother Jeff. Jeff is my friend, but we only see each other once every six months or so, whereas me and Jennifer hang out every weekend night. Jeff called me and said, "Tim, my friend Ina wants to meet you. I told her all about you and we're coming down tonight and thought maybe I'd introduce you to Ina." I said sure. I was stood up on the last blind date I had, but for a couple months now I've really not had a good time going out and thought well, maybe this will be a good night.
8:30 - I met Jeff, his wife, and Ina in the parking lot. I said, "Hey Jeff, been a long time. How you been?" Jeff looked at me blankly, which did not strike me as funny at the time, because of course, I was checking out Ina. She was very pretty, dressed nice and seemed pleasant. We went in the bar, talked, shot pool, talked some more. Ina was very polite and easy to talk to and I was enjoying myself. Finally, a good evening out for the first time in weeks!
10:30 - Jennifer shows up at the bar. I was sitting alone, as Jeff, his wife, and Ina went to the bathrooms. Jennifer was acting weird, and now I was wondering what was going on. Now the plot thickens! Jennifer looked across the room and said, "My f'in brother is trying to fix Ina up with Tim D. I put a stop to that shit! I told Ina he was a conceited male whore and you were a nice guy"
I didn't know what to say. I just sat there for a while and finally said, "He called me today and told me Ina wanted to meet me. Why would he be trying to fix her up with Tim D?"
(Get ready to cry, laugh, or however you handle something pathetic, because here it comes.) Jennifer replied, "Jeff called me and said he wanted my friend Tim's phone number, so naturally I gave him yours. He thought I had given him Tim D's number. They were expecting him to meet them, not you. And damn it, wouldn't you know Tim D is here tonight too!"
I didn't know what to say. I'm not going to go into my personal life here, but believe me, it's been a very, very bad several months for me. And now this happens! I have never felt so humiliated, so less than nothing, so at a loss for what to do! I said, "Then what the f*ck am I doing here?" and started to leave. Jennifer told me to sit back down. I told her no way was I hanging around, but after a time she convinced me to stay.
So Jeff, his wife and Ina returned to our table. I really wanted to sneak out, but I sat there. Ina offered lots of conversation for another hour or so, but I really think she was just being polite.
Pretty pathetic, huh? At least you can all count on me being right here on fubar for many, many weekend night to come, because I am THROUGH!!!
