A couple of times, my main photo has been rated a 1. Based on the amount of positive feedback/ratings, it sounds like the photo is a good one of me, and I'm not Quasimodo-level hideous.
Therefore, I can't help but wonder if the ratings aren't for how good or bad I look, but based on what I am wearing. I don't blame anyone for disagreeing with the U.S. government, who ultimately control our military, but it is unfair to project that resentment onto fellow Americans who offer their time, hard work and sometimes even their lives in service to a country that they love.
Personal attacks on soldiers based on the government's actions is like harassing the cashiers at Wal-Mart because you hate how the company is managed. Remember, we're governed by representatives. If you want to make a change, start a dialog with your congressmen. If they won't listen to you, get others to join that dialog. To keep from getting run out of office, they have to accurately represent how their constituents feel. If enough people convince enough congressmen, changes as big as a departure from Iraq could be made.
"But isn't the president The Decider?" The whole point of checks and balances in our government is supposed to prevent a despotism, police state or oligarchy from forming. If the president isn't acting in accordance with his bosses (the American people), then he would be fired, like any employee who doesn't follow instructions.
The problem is that the most vocal opponents to the war are doing marches & rallies, rather than using a system that works... if people use it.
