my current perception of the human race as a species: inherently selfish, corruptable, and genuinely disgusting. no, this is not some emo rant because a boy was mean to me. this is the conclusion i have come up with by looking at interactions throughout my life. i have found that humans, as a species mind you, are generally only looking for what they can do to help themselves. each and everyone of us. we ultimately don't care about the people making our food at mcdonalds for the kids in third world countries making our clothes. we care because we feel we should. not to say that we shouldn't care, but think about it, if there wasn't constant documentation and protest, we wouldn't bat an eye. and if we did care enough about the explotation of the underprivledged, it wouldn't still be going on. all we really want is what will cost us less so we don't have to work for it. the motto of the human race, get someone else to do it. our selfishness is inborn. we are all born with the idea of looking out for ourselves, and it shows. i firmly believe that people are aware and allow themselves to be used, but the user does not display that compassion that we believe they should. but hey, if someone lets you exploit them, then its not really exploitation is it? delusion is a common theme here.
the reason we are ultimately corruptable comes from our desire to better our means in any way possible. they say money doesn't solve your problems? i'm sure you've never heard that from someone living below the poverty line. the rich love to get richer. and they will sell their souls to do it. power, money included, corrupts all. not all will stay that way forever, but to free onesself they must denounce the power.
now i guess i'll try to explain myself a little better. everything above pertains to the human race as one giant ugly species, in all its flaws. but we aren't as entirely animalistic as the above may state. we are in fact capable of allowing ourselves to feel compassion and self sacrifice for a select few. and for those we would lay down and die in a fiery grave. but that also stems from our self serving attitude. because the reason we connect with these few is because we get something of value from them. like love for example.
what i have found is that people really don't ever do something because they care about this near-stranger they are doing it for. they are overzealous, and want someone elses problem no to get made into their own. so they sweep it aside and under the rug. we all have this very ugly side to us, some show it more than others. but i guess we're not perfect right?
