I went to a book reading tonight for my friend's partner. Tommy (my friend) couldn't make the trip because he's preparing for a ghost conference he's hosting this weekend. Since Larry (his partner) was on home turf, I figured I would go out and support him.
I've never been to a book reading so I really wasn't sure what to expect, but I bought my copy and waited for Larry to arrive. He genuninely looked surprised and happy to see me. Only a small crowd showed up, but the response was great. Everyone laughed at all the right moments. Truthfully, I never knew Larry was so funny. When I would visit him and Tommy in San Francisco, Tommy is generally the funny one and Larry, well, no pun intended, is usually the straight man. Seeing this side of him really opened my eyes and I like him all the more. Granted, Larry is a likeable guy to begin with. Tommy joked saying that sometimes he feels like Jan from the Brady Bunch. Instead of Marsha, Marsha, Marsha it's Larry, Larry, Larry. LOL
To give you a little insight on the book, here is a blurb from the back cover:
" In this series of cultural polemics on an unexpected array of contemporary topics-from mistaken first impressions ("Presumed Hetero Unless Proven Gay") to sustainable yet unaffordable trousers ("Socially Responsible Pants") to critiques of bourgeois mindsets ("Middle Class Writer"-author Larry-bob Roberts offers hilarious, thought-provoking insight into the absurdities of modern life and queer culture. His humorous observations are destined to jostle reads' complacency...and confirm their worst suspicions."
