THE LINE

No matter how many times you are told, you do not listen

Your necessity to push the envelope pushed my eyes to continually glisten

No matter the many times you think this shit's getting old

You still did not control your urge to turn a blind eye to the story as it unfolds

Your vision astigmatic enough to shift your perspective into a custom-made cocoon

Don't give me that fertilized babblement

That you did not see

That you could not see

It is that you would not see

The line

The line was real and oh so tangible

It makes me cringe to think of the excessive and oh so extensive warnings you did not heed

The more I said "you better lookout, there is danger ahead!"

The more you looked at me with blame, and stuck to your heels

But that blame was for your shame

So go ahead, blame me, I can take accountability for the lack of my fragility

My so called vulnerability did not hamper the communication lines

Having you so desperately hunting for your wire cutters

Congratulations, you succeeded just in time

In one swift move you shredded what I once thought was so imbedded in our souls

Didn’t I tell you?

In my whispers, in my screams, in my tortured written pleas

Be careful, be warned, be alert for where you tread is not an unmarked mine field

And in so taking my macheted efforts to reach past your impetuous nature

I was blind to your deceitful manipulative antics

Though just one simple conversation would have freely lifted your sentence

We both held strong to a belief that NO! It could never happen

So mystifyingly similar, yet so apart when you dropped me into the abyss

So far down there never was a final kiss

She thought, his love for me could never end

He thought, her love for me could never end

Oh let us cry now for our erroneous vows

You couldn't hold her shrugging your shoulders

You couldn't speak your mind, I’m sorry, was there any to find?

I was wrong; your love had a finish line

But in your rightness of my love for you, you missed one crucial thing

And now you feel the sting as you stepped boldly and irretrievably over that line

So wide your eyes, so very shocked that I do not need yet another masked hint, and

That yes, I do love you in spite of myself

But that sucker you once knew

Has long since been put on a shelf
