What are you waiting for?

Ok my girl WonderWench blogged a rant on hot linking and since this is a valid concern in every community I figured I would go ahead and rip it to here.

Just a General Rant...
Current mood: bitchy
Hi my friends,
Please know that this rant isn't directed at any one person. It's just a random vent session. I trust the majority of you on my friends list are computer savvy enough to know not to harsh someone's bandwidth from whatever image hosting site we might use. So this is not directed at you. I've seen enough of your pages go down as a result of bandwidtch harshers, recently and thought perhaps you might feel better knowing that there's someone else out there that feels your pain, lol.
The better part of my morning has been spent, downloading some of my graphics from my photobucket account into a brand new photobucket account. Anyone wonder why I'd do such a crazy thing? Well, it seems my bandwidtch is almost maxed for the month all ready. My reset date for the month is the 15th! WTF?
I don't have THAT many graphics on my page.
My slide shows come from picturetrail, not photobucket. So it can't be those.
Photobucket doesn't host music. So it's not that.
I don't send out THAT many comments or multi-graphic comments.
Now granted, I realize the multi-graphic comments tend to eat bandwidth, IF they're big or motion gifs. That's why I limit them!
Which leaves only one reason why my graphics might soon be toast, until the 15th of next month!
BANDWIDTH HARSHERS!!!
These people use the tags and urls from our graphics as opposed to downloading the graphics to their own computers and then sending them to their own host sites. This in turn crashes the pictures we've used on our pages or as comments, until our bandwidth renews.
Whether they're direct linking from my myspace page, from someone's page I leave a comment on, or directly from photobucket, it doesn't matter. What does matter is that it's happening and it pissed me off!
Now don't get me wrong. I don't mind people who might lift graphics from my page who do it the right way! It's the bandwidth burglers who get to me. But in an effort to head off a crash of my page, I've gone and set both my myspace page and photobucket account to private.
We all work hard to create our pages and find just the right graphics to post on our friends pages. The laziness of others that wrecks our work is aggrevating, to say the least.
I spent another period of time this morning, going thru some of your pages to find some of the multi-graphic comments I'd left between now and January 15th in an effort to reduce my current bandwidth usage. Not an easy task, finding them, considering the fact that some of you might get more than one page of comments per day, lol! I don't know if this will do any good or not, but I thought it was worth a try. So if you happen to notice a couple of my comments gone from your pages, that's the reason why they're gone. I kept the Maxine ones up, because they aren't that heavy on bandwidth. I did however, remove the one that had the 12 spinning mandalas. I'm hoping this one was part of my problem.
So I guess now that I've gotten all this off of my chest, I'll go back into my photobucket, and grab the graphics that are on my page (including my layout graphics) and send them to my alternate photobucket account. Then I'll have to redo the tags on my page. But I take pride in my page as I know all of you take pride in your pages as well. I'd like to keep mine entact until I choose to change it myself.
***End of Rant***
I can understand her rant. Now she does not make her graphics, but honestly the whole hot linking issue is why you will normally find my name and my design logo on every graphic I make for public consumption. I mean who the hell wants to repost a kick ass graphic with my name on it.. lol
So it comes down to the fact that Hotlinking is lame! It takes all of 2 minutes to make a photobucket account and then host the graphic yourself. Or use those kick ass graphic sites that give you the code to use.
Much love to all my cherries, hit me back to let me know how my cherries feel about this.
