Waitress

(Note: I know there are male waiters out there doing a wonderful job, but for this poem I wrote about the ladies.)
Do you really know what a waitress does,
Besides calling you Honey. I can tell you that fills this lonely trucker heart with a wonderful buzz.
I know the ladies serve up the latest menu items with those beautiful smiles,
For a fact, those are the first friendly faces truckers see in hundreds of miles.
They listen kindly to your worn out road dog tales,
If you are a regular, they will let you know that you are acting like an old fashioned dirty old male.
They will refill your coffee with a twinkle in their eye,
Some truckers are welcome and told to sit a spell. Others are helped but the girls wish they would drink it on the fly,
They give you your food and come back to see if you need more,
Then they will give you directions or let you know the specials you can get in the truck stop store.
These waitresses work until they are dead on their feet,
Serving up coffee, juice, pancakes, and don't ask if you don't want to know breakfast meat.
They hand out food, drink and smiles with their off beat chatter,
While busting their butts carrying the heavy food laden platter.
Just remember this, when you are finished eating your tender steak loin,
Give that pretty waitress some extra washingtons and throw in an extra coin.
