What to do with Job Expenses

So I just got hired on in a new job as a mechanic, which is really awesome. The only problem is that I have to provide my own tools, which isn't too much of a problem, but I'm strapped for cash. So should I,

A) Buy everything I need right now, and just live on the lean side.

or

B) Buy the tools I know I will use immediately, then after the first couple paychecks start beefing up my selection.

Now remember a full set of good tools, plus a box can cost well over $1000.
