You'd think after a vacation, I'd be all bright eyed and bushy tailed at my first day back at the office, but this was not to be the case. To start off with, I have been away from the office for roughly three months now, with all the traveling and the vacation. Coming in, I noticed my pace was off. Typically I walk in with the pace that I hit the lights as they turn green, or a short wait until I can jaywalk. Not this morning, I was too late, or too early, and never did get it right. I got in to about 300 e-mails, which isnt bad considering. I swear at least 20 of them were "Are you there?" so I let my out of office count as an answer. Some were as if someone just grabbed a name from the address book at random and then asked questions. They don't know who I am, and I don't know who they are, so eff it, they don't deserve a reply. Then there were some that I was either CC'd or there were multiple To:'s so I figure if no one answered them, why should i? I think I sent about 15 responses, so 5% isnt too bad, but the reading the e-mails had me soured on the prospects of the rest of the day. Oh, I forgot to mention that someone responded to an e-mail I sent 3 months ago, I had to hold back my response which was something to the tone of "It's a good thing you don't work for the fire department..."
On the plus side, I got a set of noise canceling headphones for Christmas, and I must report that they work awesome. I could see people's lips move but I couldn't hear them speak, and this time it wasn't through sheer willpower alone.
