I finally got to see the new Halloween, and all I can say is WOW. It was totally worth talking my son into seeing this instead of "Balls of Fury"
I am a fan of Rob Zombie the moviemaker, more than the musician. So when I heard he was attempting a remake, I was stoked. And needless to say, I was not disappointed.
He starts by giving a background story on young Mike Meyers. It showed him as a child, and how he was shaped the way he was shaped. It also showed that he wasn't incapable of love.
I like also how Rob Zombie films his stuff. Sort of dark, sort of grainy. It really adds to the mood of the movie. And even though I've seen the original more than a few times, there were still some jumps left in this movie.
I thought that Sherry Moon Zombie did a standout job as Michael's mom. She toned down the shrillness of her voice, and you could really feel the tired, I'm stuck in this shitty life, white trash woman. And her working the pole as a stripper isn't bad either. I think she was the only woman in the movie who didn't show her boobs.
The next standout performance was the boy who played young Michael. He was ugly, and creepy, all at once. He was very comfortable in the role, and played it very realistic.
And a special mention to Danielle Harris, who played the sherrif's daughter. She was in some of the other Halloween movies as Michael's younger sister, and Rob Zombie brought her back in a great role as his sister's best friend. She acted great, looked great, and was topless, which is plenty for me lol. I thought it was a nice touch and an homage to the originals that they put her back in it.
The bad parts...a few. The guy who played the stepdad to Michael was WAY over the top, and was a typical Zombie crazy character. The guy who played Sam Loomis, you just didn't feel it like you did in the original.
I did like the 70's feel and look of the movie. Zombie really caught the time, from the guys with the horrible heavy metal hair, to the horrible clothes worn then.
I would say I was quite pleased with the effort, and give 8 out of 10 slashes.
