Last night I went to see Hank III, and I was totally stoked to do so. I love his country stuff, because he sounds like his grandpa.
The show started with a band called Eick Joad and the Power of Country. The like truck driving songs, but weren't half bad. Not good enough to make me want to buy their stuff, but not o bad that I wanted to stick a straw in my ear.
Then there was about a 15 minute wait, so we got to listen to a bunch of drunken ass pirates chant his name, and genuinely make ass of themselves. But there were enough of them, that they had a big enough crowd as to not feel bad about doing it.
Before I forget, this was at the Pearl Room in Mokena IL. Its one of my favorite places to see bands, because its small, and you can get within inchs of the stage. General Admission too.
So Hank III comes out, and he is awesome on stage. Stand up bass, a fiddle player, steel guitar, and him on acoustic. He burns thru about 20 of his songs in an hour and a half, and they were awesome. Very straight forward, not much flash, but incredibly good, and comes across well live.
So after that, he comes out with his band Assjack. Very heavy metal, lots of screaming, a singer joined him on stage, a real crowd chaser. I think they would have been better if they were in a metal show, not a country one, because you're geared for one thing...and POW!!!
We left halfway thru, bought a T shirt, very reasonable priced, and went across the street to White Castle. Grape soda on tap totally rocks!
