I had a MUMM on friday, trying to decide what movie to see over the weekend, and ended up seeing both. And let me tell you, I am glad that I did, because both were great!
To start with, I missed the first movie in this sequence in the theatres. I had seen "The Talented Mr Ripley", and had never forgiven Matt Damon for stealing 2 hours of my life. I forgive him.
If you like action, conspiracy, and espionage...these are the movies for you. Non stop action, pretty good acting, and edge of your seat story are just a few ways to describe this.
Jason Bourne was a government agent for the CIA, in a top secret department dealing with assassination. During an attempted assassination, he becames unraveled, and starts to remember his past. He then becomes a rogue agent, just trying to disappear and escape the life. But the government can't let that happen. Thus the action for the first two movies.
In this movie, there is a leak within the program, and the newspaper article brings him out of hiding, to confront the reporter. He also starts to remember his past, because he's had amnesia. He wants the reporters source, and it sets him on the way to find out his past.
It sets off an action packed trail. The part that worries me, is they are tracking everyone, thru phones, tapped in surveilance cameras, etc. I'm naturally paranoid, so is the government watching us that much...I think so lol.
But he knows how to shake surveillance, and has some help from withing the CIA. Julia Stiles does a great job again, looking scared and turned on at the same time. She played his one time liason in the organization. Joan Allen plays someone higher up in the organization, and is GREAT. And last, but certainly not least, David Straithaim plays one of the best on screen pricks of all time. You can really believe his paranoia, and his blind pursuit.
The only thing I really didn't like about the movie, was how they filmed some of the sight scenes. Sometimes it was hard to see who was beating up who, because the camera was shaky, adding to the urgency of it. A good effect, but a little overdone.
But I loved it, and I'm giving it a 9.5 out of 10, because there was lots of fighting and the camera was a little much.
