The screaming of bunnies is a sound you never get out of your head. They scream out of fear, when a cat is attacking them, when you get to close to them. They scream in this way that makes your heart hurt. That makes the hairs on your neck stand straight up in the air. It makes you hold your children close to you, and thank the being upstairs that they are safe. It makes you hurt inside for the bunnies mother who knows she will never see her baby again alive. A cat only kills to play, never to eat. It hurts inside everytime I think of those bunnies last summer that lost their lives to the cat named Sassy. It makes me want to cry when i think back to pulling a few of them out of my pool during our long, hot, dry summer. And makes me remember the one I saved, so close to death, so cold, shivering. I wrapped it in 10 kitchen towels held it like it was my own baby, and watched in amazement as it came back to life. In my arms it looked up at me, let out a scream and took a leap out of the towels. Bruno tried hard to catch it, but I would not let him bring it back to death. I caught it, brought it outside again, and watched it fumble towards the high grass, it kept letting out these screams. This is a morning I will never forget. I will remember how small it was in my arms, how fragile life was and still is. How me being here, alive and strong may lead to a few other beings being able to stay alive, and thrive. Maybe my children will learn from my love of animals that you never hurt an animal, you may put it out of its pain, when a cat brings home a half dead animal, but you never ever hurt an animal out of your own pleasure!
